imagine your soul leaving your body. if you feel like your rising that's a good thing. just imagine leaving your body.

You're trying too hard. Even getting excited when you approach out-of-body experiences, even getting annoyed or frustrated, will ensure that you don't leave. If you can manage to go through the routine of an out of body meditation, but somehow also manage to trick yourself into not expecting anything to come out of it, and remaining calm and uncaring when the weird things begin to happen, then you'll succeed.

With that said, you could also try Active Imagination. It's easier, and might even be more helpful with what you're looking to do.

Myself I think that you're not succeeding because you looks back to your body by getting too much happier because it's full of new experiences, and getting into a feeling that whatever changes you experiencing are new to you. I suggest you to look more aware of everything whatever happening during projection. And get into all this like it's really and most common for you, and another familiar phase/experience/world .

Before astral projection, I recommend trying Dream Recall and Lucid Dreaming.

Dream Recall: Keep a journal by your bedside and sleep with repeated self affirmations that you will remember your dreams. When you awaken, move as little as possible and write down what you recall. After a while, it will become easier to recall them because this technique allows your subconscious to know that this is something that matters to you.

Lucid Dreaming: Clarity and controlling your dreams. Works in conjunction with Dream Recall. To do so, do reality checks in your waking hours. This habit will slowly transition in your dreams. Once you realize you are dreaming, you will be able to control it. I might daresay that you may enjoy this more than AP or EP, which is an entirely personal experience.

Reality check: Proof you are awake. Mirrors and hands are almost always distorted in dreams.
