There are several factors you should think about when meditating. Are you comfortable? You should always be comfortable when meditating, or else it will feel uncomfortable and that is all you'll be thinking about or even moving around trying to get comfortable. Don't grunt and clench your eyes tightly shut attempting to clear your mind, that doesn't work ether. Just take it slow and focus on your breathing in a comfortable position. Do you like listening to music as you meditate? Then do that. Look up any sort of music like forest sounds, ocean waves, etc. I personally use alpha wave meditation, light calming incense and have a lovely cup of Chamomile tea when I meditate, usually for ten to fifteen minutes.

Meda/medi- center, balance, medium. Health. Tation- practice, application or state of being. Before asking you may want to break the word down to what it means to you and if you dont know then look it up. Don't take it wrong. Just trying to help. Also, thats how i see it. Was pondering it myself the same way and decided to just do it. Monthly? At least. I have a cool method but but i will be waiting to make sure the post is not abandoned before i post it. Or you can mail me. ~blessing~

Make sure you're in a calm environment free of distractions. The environment should make you feel relaxed. If you feel as though it would help you create a special place with candles and incense and relaxing music. Consider doing breathing exercises? They'll help you to relax they can be found on yoga websites.
Good luck and blessed be!

youre not being very specific about what is "not working"

but there have to be about 500 posts about it here and a trove all over the internet about it.

ask more specifically and enjoy the process of doing your own reading and research!

Best of luck!
