healing a broken heart

I was recently in a amazing happy fulfilling relationship, till he started using drugs. Things got out of control so quickly and there was even a physical encounter. I had to leave because i knew it was the right thing to do. I miss the old him so much that i feel like my heart is breaking. What can i do to stay strong and protect myself?
