Try an electric candle, they're not as fun but they don't burn as easily.

While candles are a popular medium, they are not the only form of magic. All the spells on this site can be tweaked to your needs, so I would find an alternate method.

Close your eyes, see a candle in front of you (in your mind). Watch the flame.
Instant candle.

Most spells do not NEED candles. Candles are merely mental tools.
Candle magick can be substituted with other points of focus as long as the flame itself isn't used for burning items.

Candles are usually just an altar piece to represent fire (which can be replaced with anything).

They're used in magick to create the mood/atmosphere. Soft candle light is naturally calming. But as a child I had a lava lamp that had a soft light which caused a similar effect. I still preferred my candles but I'm just throwing you some options.

There is an electric pillar candle that flickers like a real one. I saw it at Walgreens for about $10. I personally have the electric tea light candles (found a pack of 2 at the dollar store). I use them inside carved pumpkins and squash for Samhain and in paper lanterns my daughter makes. I've fooled people with them. My mother-in-law was worried my small pumpkins last year would catch fire until I showed her they were electric flames.=)
