Automatic writing, spirit

Hello, I'm not sure which area to submit this question to. A few decades ago when doing automatic writing (or the Christian version thereof) I was "contacted by a British writer of the 1600s. I quickly repressed this and never did try to reconnect. Now, that in my life I'm looking back at all the invitations to a higher level of consciousness and find them to be valid in my present life. What did this mean and should I try to make contact. If so, what process would you use.
