New to wicca, assistance?

Hello all!

Last year, I read about Wicca and thought it'd be cool to act like I was and do some spells for my friends. Luckily enough, they worked (Not sure how!) but then I just forgot about it when I got busy. But later on, I actually started reading up on the religion and found that it wasn't all about witchcraft and that I agree with the beliefs and it seems like a great path to follow! I recently read "Wicca: A guide for the Solitary Practitioner" or something among those lines.. by Scott Cunningham. And I am interested in learning more. Could someone suggest some reading material for me? Or help me get on my way to studying? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! BB.

Well there are a bunch of pinned forums here that can help you get started.

  • Wicca for Life by Raymond Buckland

  • Living Wicca: A Further Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham

  • The Goddess is in the Details by Deborah Blake

  • There are many other great books and authors but you should start with a couple books to get footing then branch out as you need them [there's The Witches Goddess and The Witches God by Stuart and Janet Farrar that are very helpful]

I recommend you make an oath/rules for yourself even if you're solitary. Write a list of beliefs [right and wrong] that you hold as facts [example I won't curse anyone ever] then put the paper away for a few weeks, take it out and revise the list as needed [example: I will curse those who cursed me first] then put the paper away and repeat until you are happy with the list. This becomes the laws of your craft. Things are always changing but if you don't have something written down it's easier to break.

    Hi Renee,

A good place to start out is with some of the posts in this forum. Give the following a read:

"What Wicca Is and Isn't" http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=637268

    "Main Wicca Posts" http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=580909

"Resources for Beginners" (Recommended books and websites: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=500751

I've been practicing Wicca for over 30 years now and I've been a High Priestess of a large teaching coven since 1996. If you have any specific questions or if something confuses you don't hesitate to ask.
