Chaos magic is a practice used only by a few. These few believe that in order to use chaos magic one must be truly chaotic. You see these are people who crave chaos and create chaos where ever they tread. Now to use it one must have absolute belief in something or it will not work. Most use the symbol for chaos in order to practice it. But this is just my view however, I do suggest taking in other's opinions and seeing what their view on this would be.

All that has been posted as responses on this thread are utter trash. Please look up Phil Hine and his book "Oven Ready Chaos". It's a beginner's guide to chaos magic and is offered for free online.

Not much devoted to Chaos magic, really. But if i was you,i would probably start with King Listenington's " The Crowly Chaos " book (may not be available in your country). It's a fascinating book to start with. Perhaps, that's all!

Definitely agreed with Sataset.

I sent you a mail with a few links to some good resources. like dkmu.org and chaosmatrix.org

what was said above is..silly. "spooky edgy cool dangerous" is not chaos magic, but with a name like chaos magic i guess it's only asking for it.

Chaos magic is not about hurting others, read Oven-Ready Chaos by Phil Hine and Liber Null by Peter Carroll.

The new movement given the 'sinister' name chaos magick has nothing to do with the practices of Egypt per se, unless the individual practitioner wishes to include them....

Ok first of Chaos magic is not evil, in a way it is viewed as chaotic. But it is not because the person is crazy and likes to cause chaos. Instead most chaos witches, which is what I refer myself as most closely related to, they are normally very creative in their spirituality.

Now when I say creative, I mean we use belief as a tool. We take what we learn, and we use what works best for us. We don't follow tradition, we don't follow a specific guideline really. We simply take what works. If casting a physical circle does nothing for us we don't do it. For example I cast a circle of light around myself in my mind, and I use an astral altar.

"It is quite possible that no two chaos magicians would agree on this, but even despite that point, chaos magic is generally not what many people think it is. I would argue there is no such thing as chaos magic. There are no sets of techniques that make up chaos magic; therefore it is not a system in and of itself. Chaos magic is an attitude, a philosophy that promotes experimentation, play, and creativity while discarding dogmatic rules. Chaos magic points out that the techniques more than the symbols are what matter and that our belief in a system is actually what makes it work. The attitude discounts the idea of absolute truth and focuses instead on results within the real world. Often chaos magicians would say "Nothing is true, everything is permitted‚” referring to the fact that you can theoretically do anything. The idea is to test different sets of techniques and figure out for yourself whether or not they work. This sort of experiential attitude fosters creativity and inventiveness and puts emphasis on results to "prove” a given set of techniques. Chaos magic is a "meta system‚” which means that it is a theoretical framework to fit other magical systems into, so the practitioners of those systems can more easily have a shared language to foster cross communication and experimentation across the various knowledge sets that different people present."

Also here is the Definition of Chaos:

Chaos
Noun.

A state of extreme confusion and disorder
The formless and disordered state of matter before the creation of the cosmos
(Greek mythology) The most ancient of gods; the personification of the infinity of space preceding creation of the universe
(Physics) A dynamical system that is extremely sensitive to its initial conditions
(chaos (n.d), 2008).

So as you can see it is not evil at all, and we do not believe in harming. We are simply philosophers, experimenters, believers, people seeking truth, and what works best for us spiritually. I know for me I was drawn so much to chaos magic because it is not defined, it is freedom. I came from a strict christian background, one with rules, and guidelines, and if you failed to follow them you were wrong. When I sought to renew my spirituality, and search for others beliefs. I was so drawn to chaos magic because it doesn't have these boundaries. My spirituality is my own, and I can do with it what I want. I can dive deep into my spiritual growth without a medium telling me how to do so. "Nothing is true, everything is permitted."

I hope this helped to shed some light on the matter.

Love and Light to you all :)
