Hi there, I?ve been practicing Wicca for a good many years now and one of the first questions that comes up is the one about where to start. My suggestion is always to start by doing some reading and studying to make certain that you understand what Wicca is really all about, and so that you can then decide whether this is truly the path that you want to follow. So with that in mind I thought I would offer some books and websites that are full of sound I information which can help you get started on your path.

To start with, here are some books that I would suggest.

''A Witch Alone'' by Marian Green
''The Elements of Ritual'' by Deborah Lipp
''Witchcrafting'' by Phyllis Curott
''21st Century Wicca'' by Jennifer Hunter
''Before You Cast a Spell'' by Carl McColman
''When, Why...If'' by Robin Wood
''Practical Pagan'' by Dana Eilers
''Wicca; A Year and a Day'' by Timothy Roderick

You can also find the recommended reading list that my coven uses at: http://www.tangledmoon.org/reading_list.htm

Here's some websites that you may find useful in helping you with questions.

Hope this helps you get a good start on your studies. And feel free to ask me, or the others here on the board if you have any specific questions we can help you with.

I would recommend against Silver Ravenwolf's books. She is inconsistent in her "teachings" and her ethics are rather questionable.

For herbs I would recommend any herbal you can find, especially the older ones. Their manner of speech may seem strange, but they way they viewed herbs and healing has a lot of links to the magical properties of herbs. I would also recommend the book 20,000 Secrets of Tea by Victoria Zak. It has become one of my favorites since I found it. If you can find a copy (since it's out of print) I would recommend Herbal Remedies by Non Shaw and Christopher Hedley. It's a hardcover book with a blue cover.

Here is a list of other books I have found interesting and useful:
Gods of the Runes: Divine Shapers of Fate by Frank Joseph
Encyclopedia of Ancient Deities by Charles Russell Coulter (Editor), Patricia Turner (Editor)
The Encyclopedia of Vampires, Werewolves, and Other Monsters by Rosemary Ellen Guiley
Celtic Myths and Legends by T. W. Rolleston
Celtic Myths and Legends by Peter Berresford Ellis
Who Were the Celts?: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about the Celts 1000 B.C. to the Present by Kevin Duffy
A Taste of Heritage: Crow Indian Recipes and Herbal Medicinesby Alma Hogan Snell
Indian Herbalogy of North America by Alma R. Hutchens, Alam Hutchens
What the Bleep Do We Know by William Arntz, Betsy Chasse, Mark Vicente (both book and video)
Hidden Messages in Water by Dr. Marasu Emoto
BodyMind by Ken Dychtwald
The Web That Has No Weaver by Ted Kaptchuk
Develop Your Psychic Skills by Enid Hoffman
Auras by Mark Smith
