I'm not sure which spells you should try,but if you go to my profile there is a link to a book for beginners,there are a few things in the book that are strictly a matter of opinion and it doesn't talk about everything the index says it does,but it's still very helpful,and it's not just a preview,the book is just short.

But it's a NEARLY complete introduction,but if you're interested in a particular path than you should do more research.

girlygothic is right, i think i can help you in your meditation..

To start your meditation session,
locate a quiet place and adjust your
self into a comfortable sitting position.
Close your eyes, take a deep breath,
and exhale slowly. Listen to your
breathing and let your mind conjure up positive images. Focus on a special
place, memory, person, or goal. And
let your breathing go deeper, inhaling
ang exhaling at the pace where your
body feels most comfortable. Do your
best to concentrate on the chosen image, but don't force anything. Once
you feel your meditation is complete,
return your breathing to normal,
mentally thank the higher powers,
and slowly open your eyes.
