semi-important question?

How long does someone's uhm.. essence stay with an object. like how some spells need something personal from a person, how long after the person stops owning that object does the essence last?

I'm just using the word essence for lack of a better word

well from my experience there has always been a hint of a persons energy left over even after years. although sometimes very dull, it is still there.

In my experience it also depends on how long the person owned it, how often they used it and even where they kept it. My aunt died in 1996 and I have a few of her things, some I just look at and feel her energy. Some, I get nothing.

It depends on how personal the object is. If it is something they wore everyday for years, then it will remain for years. They say diamonds hold the energy of the holder permanently, which is why old wedding/engagement rings are considered bad luck to reuse. My husband has jewelry from his grandmother who died 10 years ago that still have her energy on them. But they were things she had for ages or ones with sentimental value.

So I really think it depends on the personal attachment and association the person has with the object. Obviously those with their dna on them (such as hair) is something they consider "them" and therefore retains the energy of them longer than anything else.
