A Guardian Angel is a Catholic concept. It is a way of teaching children what is morally right or wrong. A "Guide" rather than a Guardian. As we got older, in the Catholic school, we realised that our Guardian Angel was in fact that "inner conscience" that guides us through life, What the concept really does is make Catholics "obey the Church", and feel guilty about everything that is against the teaching of The Catholic Church.
Many a teenage Catholic has been driven half crazy by the "sin" of masturbation; especially the enormous guilt felt by boys.

Actually other branches of Christianity believe in guardian angels also. I think it comes from a verse in the Bible that says "He will give his angels charge over you."

The belief that a Guardian Angel is watching over you is a concept not reserved just for Christianity, there are many belief systems and paths that do hold the belief of a Guardian Angel watching over you at all times. It comes down whether you choose to believe there is one or not, Glam. To what it does, the concept is that the Guardian Angel is with you representing itself as yourconscious and guiding you through the decisions in life through your own person. Sadness and emotions are part of being human, feelings that you must experience and not expect for any deity to simply remove them. If you were to believe in the Guardian Angel, take it as an entity that is there to guide you indirectly rather than fixing all the situations that you are encountering in your life.

I said Catholic, not Christian. The only other religion that has "angels" is Islam. And that came after Catholicism, and although Islam acknowledges Jesus as a prophet, only Christianity accepts Jesus as the son of God. Both religions have angels!
An angel, in both religions,is a messenger from God.

Catholicism falls under the umbrella of Christianity, Brysing. There are other religions that do have the concept of a Guardian Angel, simply in a different form from that of Christianity. For example, in Santeria there is a concept of the Guardian Angel although viewed differently from that of Christianity or Catholicism. One is born with a Guardian Angel that accompanies one on the Earthly path and one is initiated to this Guardian Angel, being represented by one of the Orishas. The Catholic Counterpart to this specific Orisha is in general meaning the Guardian Angel represented in the Catholic Church. This is what I was referring to when I stated that there are other religions and practices with similar concepts of a "Guardian Angel". You are right that these are the religions that have the concept of Angels, however there are others as Santeria that do have similar concepts. In Hinduism for example, there are "Devas" or celestial beings who would be equivalent to that of Angels as they are seen as enlightened beings and play the role of protectors to humankind.

Not so! The other branches of Christianity fall under the umbrella of Catholicism, not the other way around. Many other religions have "Guardian Spirits" but they are not angels!

Most Thelemites work with angels, and angels are very much part of the spiritual system of Thelema. 'Knowledge and Conversation' of the Holy Guardian Angel is the next step in one's personal progress. In this system there is no straight cut answer as to what the angel is, it change with one's perception and experience.

It is also too complicated a concept to explain on a forum, and it would also be improper for me to comment at length.

But, I must encourage you to find your own answers out and not ask other people. Experiment, ask. question, keep a written record, seek and ye shall find.

The other type of angels which did not originate in scripture and are most certainly not exclusive to the Christian religion are the Enochian angels of Dee and Kelly. Then of course the myriad of angels derived from personal experience, most of whom exist above the man made concept of religion rather than entwined to it.

Thelema? It didn't exist before the 17th century, and then embellished by Crowley. Angels, as messengers from God,are Catholicism,in the beginning.First described at the Conference of Nicea.
