In short, it's referring to understanding beyond ordinary sight.. Meaning that you can "see" things that aren't necessarily there presently. You might be able to see things that have yet to happen or that have already happened. It's more or less a sense of knowing.

The third eye is a chakra located slightly above the area between your eyes.When it is properly utilized you can use to to fall into trance in which you see the future. The third eye is used for dowsing and the like. Associated with the color purple.

Nelson~ Think of it as heightened perception on a spiritual level. It is easiest to open the Eye when our Chakras are more open and aligned, and our energy is less negative, as negativity clouds our powers of perception. Hope this helps!!
