New to Wiccan Community
By:
Hello everyone!

I am new to the Wiccan community in general and I just really need guidance. It would be nice to get to know people here and make friends.

So far, my biggest issues are two things: I have no money for tools and I can't bring myself to tell my mom about my decision to become Wiccan. Any advice?

Hey welcome to SOM Nayamei!!

First up don't worry or make a fuss to obtain tools, magic is not about the fancy tools you can use.People use tools because it helps them concentrate others because they just prefer to.
Just relax the key ingredient for any practitioner of the craft is belief in thy self and not some fancy store bought thing.
Learn the basics and when you are ready try doing a spell. You don't have to have any tools just belief(key ingredient). Also you can always get tools.

Your mother well I won't go running off to my mum to tell her I was a wiccan especially if she is a christian woman.First you should make sure that this is the right religion for you and that you are committed to this path.If it is yes then you need to ease her into it.Bring up the topic and hear what she has to say.Talk to her and say you were doing some research since it was interesting and so on.

Now mind you when I told my mother that I was going to dedicate myself to the craft she did not like it all that much.I just said it straight no easing her into it or anything since magic is a big part of my family no explanation was needed it was just not a path she wanted me to choose.

Anyways I wish you all the best.May the God and Goddess shine their light upon you.If you ever need someone to talk to I am usually on here.

Blessing!

Hi there, I?ve been practicing Wicca for a good many years now and one of the first questions that comes up is the one about where to start. My suggestion is always to start by doing some reading and studying to make certain that you understand what Wicca is really all about, and so that you can then decide whether this is truly the path that you want to follow. So with that in mind I thought I would offer some books and websites that are full of sound I information which can help you get started on your path.

To start with, here are some books that I would suggest.

''A Witch Alone'' by Marian Green
''The Elements of Ritual'' by Deborah Lipp
''Witchcrafting'' by Phyllis Curott
''21st Century Wicca'' by Jennifer Hunter
''Before You Cast a Spell'' by Carl McColman
''When, Why...If'' by Robin Wood
''Practical Pagan'' by Dana Eilers
''Wicca; A Year and a Day'' by Timothy Roderick

You can also find the recommended reading list that my coven uses at: http://www.tangledmoon.org/reading_list.htm

Here's some websites that you may find useful in helping you with questions.

Hope this helps you get a good start on your studies. And feel free to ask me, or the others here on the board if you have any specific questions we can help you with.
