You don't need a mentor, tutor, teacher, or any of that. Best way to learn is to go digging this site is full of summonings, spells, curses, and such go explore. Start simple energy manipulation. Then work up. Be cautious not to over extend yourself. Have a fun time experimenting! Have a wonderful day!

This isn't a good way to go about finding a mentor in my opinion. First of all I'd take my experience level into consideration, many experience occultists don't like teaching someone with absolutely no knowledge or practice behind them. Also age is a constant issue I see and I agree with, while age doesn't dictate maturity it can give a possible mentor an idea of what the possible student may all ready know about the world. Along with that there's the issue of the personal path and lifelong choices to be made. You should find someone experience in the field you are looking to become a bigger part of. Don't ask a Wicca to teach you how to become a Buddhist messenger even if she's very knowledgeable and experienced with her own path.

There are a few other things to consider but I don't want to ramble, I would recommend you do some soul searching and get into the field you find best suiting you. At that time in your life you'll meet many people who may be able to fit you well as a student of theirs. Mentoring someone is more than just occasionally sending them e-mails about how to cast a good luck spell.

I would like to add a note to this. Most people wont teach anyone under 18. This has to do with paretns more than anything. When a person is 18 they choose thier own path. When a perso is still a minor they are still under a parents rule.
Many teachers and mentors have gotten in trouble because many parents dont understand and accuse them of doing bad things or teaching thier children bad things even when nothin of that nature is happening.

I would actually make a distinction between mentors and teachers. Mentors are more or less guides; they only help, assist, and answer direct questions. They are also often more personal with the one they are mentoring as it's usually a training sort of deal as in mentor and apprentice.

Teachers teach, they sit you down for lessons and notes. They are typically more rigid and sometimes more involved. By teaching is what gets them in trouble most of time. However I won't say mentors never get in trouble because they do, check out the thread about teaching minors.

Here's a good rule of thumb to know real from fake if you can't quite figure it out yet. If it sounds impossible or fluffy, it probably is.
