Words are not magic. Magic comes from the person who is using those words. The words are simply there to define the intent of the working. They don't need to be chanted or even spoken aloud. But it is important to understand that simply chanting or saying some words will not make magic happen.

The idea of magic words is old, but a misunderstanding all the same.

In Europe post-Roman Empire, there were people using Latin for 'higher' purposes besides just religion.

Also, in some Western mystery traditions, Hebrew is used in many rituals and exercises.

And in some cases it was the opposite: When French was the official language of England, the people practicing folk magic, and still passing down their practices and traditions which had become forbidden (vulgar, being used originally in the sense of 'low' in the societal sense, of course always elevating the wealthy and learned, rather than meaning what it has come to mean today -- likewise with rude -- now linked to Germanic-based words which are not acceptable in formal environments) in their Germanic-based tongue.

It is only natural to think that the people practicing this way would continue their practice with the language they associate with it.

It led to people practicing magic using words not frequently heard by the people encountering the magic users.

But there is really nothing extra special about any of it, as it comes to intent rather than the actual words.
