well first of all the importance of herbs u have to know like Herbs by themselves have little magickal power. In order to practice powerful witchcraft using herbs, the herbs must be infused with power. This is advanced magick and requires the ability to invoke/evoke and direct the elements. Each herb carries elemental properties that correspond to its medicinal uses. These can be found under planetary rulerships. In addition, to really empower herbs, planetary hours should be observed to amplify any working.Herbs have long been employed in the workings of magick. Through the power of scent; incense, perfume, herbal oils used for anointing one’s self, anointing candles, sigils and talismans; purification bathing before ritual, and with some, ingestion.and for example you need acacia to reach at trance state in ap okay and acacia is the flower part so the flower part is used as bathing etc etc blessed be

Sometimes, if you let it happen and you do not try to force it to happen too much(strain will most likely not make trance happen for you, at all!) take a break and come back, obsessive thoughts only stress you out which keep you from going into trance. You're going to have to find your own groove and see what works for you, not every herb and spice works for the same person's mind/body, so do some experiementing on the effects.

Nevertheless, good luck on your journey and sometimes music can throw me into a trance, if I really get into it, which for me, "getting into it" requires me to have my emotional walls completely down which is usually on strong, clear nights of a full moon or on a certain mood swing of my own, etc. You have to be calm to enter hypnosis or a trance, and have complete focus but not trying too hard or it will break if you feel yourself slipping into the groove.

Most legal herbs that are entheogenic in nature (mind altering substances) are extremely poisonous, and I wouldn't give them to just anyone. I would rather someone not kill themselves thinking they can just ingest whatever and go enter trance and achieve an OBE (well an OBE and never come back that is...)

That said, I'm of the position of a wortcunner, as plants have spirits and require you to ally yourself and communicate with the spirit of the plant to properly utilize their power, as well as the correct planetary correspondences.

I personally have made and used Flying Ointments, and these are made using those aforementioned dangerous herbs. Things like nightshade, which does kill people.

There is very safe, lite version available from Sarah Lawless. She also has incense that is good for trance.

As for common non-entheogenic herbs, Saturnian herbs are useful, due to their connection with the chthonic otherworld and spirits.

Wormwood is a prime example. Absinthe is an alcohol I find good for achieving hedge-crossing with, and the wormwood spirit plays part in this.

Mugwort tea or incense is also a good example that works.

Frankincense is a resin that can help produce altered states when burned as incense and is even used by churches. Pure forms of the resin are even ingested in traditional medicine as dhoop to treat arthritis.
