How old is she? Ever heard people do stupid things when in love? She could of done it to impress him, or to rebel. Everyone has done something stupid in the heat of the moment, or as a result of peer pressure, people normally grow out of it.

If she's afraid she was cursed, cleanse and protect herself. If she still has the mud/ash 'gift' get rid of it. Perhaps bury it in a box filled with salt, throw it in a river [don't look back, have her throw it over her shoulder and walk away, not looking back] or throw it into a purifying fire.

Cursed or not, tell her to forget and move on. Learn from her mistake, and move on.

Forget about it, it's her issue. I'm sorry but it's a curse, that's why black magic is known as black magic.

On the level of real-life consequences, of course this is very serious, especially if her memory appears to have been affected.

Unfortunately, the only solution that I can see would come from her. From a standpoint of my own beliefs, the ashes if she ate them or whatever would have been the anchor so to speak of some psychological abuse/powerplay; and thus can only be reversed if she disbelieves the power that her ex had over her, which is difficult if the thing that happened is actually effective, but it's not impossible--it's just not something that you can do for her. Okay, I guess you could counteract it with an anchor to the opposite... but what would be effective would be (in my belief) very individual.
