Essentially, Vodou originates from Haiti. When the salves came from Africa, they created Vodou in Haiti, Voodoo in the Southern States, and I believe Vodu. I don't know much besides what I said. Still a beginner with Vodou.

Vodou is a religion and like any religion it has practices that involve prayer and ritual. There are many forms of it. The most well known is the New Orleans form which mixes Christianity and Native American medicine with it's African traditions and faith. It also shows some influence of Western occultism nowadays. New Orleans Voodoo is where most of the folk magic known as "hoodoo" originates from. However, in its purer form in the areas it actually came from (IE: Haiti), it is much less "ecclectic". The ritual magick used by those that are Vodun is often extremely faith based. The folk magick is what is more popular and less tied to religious view, such as jars, dollies, and the recipes for dusts, waters, oils etc. (I love the recipes).
