I have been interested in learning about my family's ancestry, but I haven't really tried anything. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a heritage site that is free. Thank you.~

The best place to start is with your living family members, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. Ask them for all the information they can remember about older family members who may have died. Get at least approximate dates for births, deaths, and marriages. Get any family stories about where they came from, etc. Once you have all that check out your local library. Many have genealogy rooms where you can research for free both in books and on-line. And if you have a local Mormon church, check to see if they have a Family History Center. The Mormons maintain extensive genealogy records even on non-Mormons and are happy to help you learn how to do research using their resources.
