Ocean Water VS Holy Water

I live in Florida and I'm about 10 minutes from the ocean, so I was just curious to know others opinion on ocean water and it's 'cleansing' abilities. When I lived in North Carolina, I used a rather complicated ritual for making holy water and now that I can simply go to the ocean and collect water anytime I want, I was just curious as to whether or not you guys think that it would be just as beneficial? My thought is that I could simply use the ocean water and say the prayer used for the holy water over it instead of step one and step two of the holy water which involves spring water and sea salt anyways.

Furthermore, isn't it possible to just cleanse and charge magical items in the ocean anyway?

I know this stuff seems silly, but before I lived close to the ocean, I didn't consider it an option so it is still new to me.

Natural water to me in itself would be considered pure and untainted so I don't see why you couldn't skip a few steps and simply bless & charge the water instead ot performing a complicated ritual. To me holy water has a lot to do with belief, faith, etc... so I would think blessing the ocean water would be a perfectly good option.

I think a big factor is the health of the water in question since a lot of it really isn't pure and untainted. The water in the San Francisco bay is freaking full of taint, including a bunch of mercury contamination left over from the gold rush.

Just check into the health of your local water to make sure it's clean first. If it is then I see no reason why you can't use it as holy water. It wouldn't meet the right criteria in certain traditions so I wouldn't suggest trying to use this in strictly defined traditions like Hermeticism and its rituals. Conversely it would be exceptionally suited to serve as a holy water in a more naturist tradition.

Holy water is blessed by God (imbued with divine energy). Sea water is not equal. If you bless your own water, sea water is still not equal. Sea water has natural energy, not yours. And, as you probably know, using your own energy in your rituals and spells is more effective.

If what your doing is working for you, just stick with it... in magick its all about the will, focus & intension ..
if you didn't have holy water, use seawater, or virgin olive oil from the kitchen just as good... so dont't worry about it..

@Magickor5 that would depend on your belief in god if you believe holy water is just water that you personally have blessed then theirs no reason sea water cant be equal
