Why believe in ghosts?

This forum is more or less me talking to myself, in written public form. I don’t by any means think I am the first to broach this subject but I am curious to get some opinions.

Why do we love ghost shows, or play with the Ouija board? Is the whole thing a quest for knowledge, or do we truly care what happens after we die?

I believe that people deep down need to know that after we pass on, there isn’t just an eternity of emptiness and we disappear. Spirits and ghosts use to be stories to scare us as kids and now they are something that we search for and try to contact ourselves.
I am not saying I don’t believe in ghosts, I definitely do, I think haunting and possessions are real, and that we can communicate as much as we want with ‘the other side’ because I truly don’t know how to comprehend any idea of after death just being nothing, and gone.

Tell me, if you believe in spirits and ghosts and that sort of thing, why? Do you just want to know what is out in the world that we don’t understand?, are you a skeptic that is open minded enough to seek out any truth behind it?

(Only my second forum, so please don’t be rude or criticize anyone’s response or this forum)

I've always believed in ghosts and spirits. And the faith/belief in them multiplied when I started having encounters with them. Personally I think that not every one turns to spirits and ghosts to find out what's in the afterlife. But for those who do it's an obvious way to find out without dying your self. Others u have seen commune with ghosts and spirits to find some kind of closure, to help the s/g continue on to the next life, to get answers. And many other reasons.

I believe because of my regular dealings with the spirits of my ancestors. What happens after we die? I have my own belief, that i get from the path i follow, but nobody can say for sure.

have no idea what happens when we die but, I know ghosts are real. My friends house is haunted by two ghosts and her sister is afraid of ghosts to the point where it's a phobia and she doesn't even know they're there. I've seen them. It's really odd, when they show up and your seeing them but you know everybody else can't. I tried to tell her I'm a medium and I did a seance type thing at her house where I let the ghost speak through me, minus the tables, candles, and such, and she thought I was acting. I guess you could say I was channeling it and it also gets pretty sad when your friend does that. I wish there was some sort of an I'm a medium support group where I am. Sorry, too much personal info there.

Thanks for the responses. and I don't want anyone to feel like they can't give their personal stories in here. I am always enthused to hear about why people believe in what they do, or show interest that they want to learn more. That's what this site is all about.

I believe for many reasons. I have seen spirits and conversed with them. I have met enough people that also know of them, which furthers my belief. As for an afterlife, one can only hope or believe.

Love, light and blessings :)

I kind of hope the afterlife is a permanent place. I don't really want to be reincarnated. One life is enough and it would be awful not to remember your last one. The friend that I was talking about, I was in her room, hanging out. We were talking and the door was open and I saw this ghost standing in the doorway right in front of me. I told her about it after it happened and she doesn't believe me. I decided to not mention the second incident when I was talking to her Mom in the kitchen and I walked into the den, which is right by the kitchen and saw a ghost, sitting in the chair just looking at me. It took me a while of staring at it to realize it was a ghost, but from the minute I saw it I knew everybody else couldn't see it. The reason I didn't see it as a ghost was because it looked so odd and it sat in the same position on the chair staring at me for the longest time. Since ghosts can appear however they want, I guess this one had a sense of humor because it decided to make itself look like an abstract art sculpture, not like anything I've seen that exists in real life but it was kind of odd at the time. The weird thing was, the exact time I looked away from it and decided to go upstairs it was gone.

The first time I had a chat with someone who had "passed on", I went to a psychiatrist to be tested. He said I was fine & maybe it was a dream. The next time, I moved furniture to check the dre,am idea. I stubbed my toe because the furniture was moved. The third time, we had a long discussion. I'm still not sure why I was chosen.

Do I believe? Hell, I know they are real.

Ghosts are definitely real I just wouldn't tell my Mom that I can speak to them. That'll get me to the psychiatrist real quick. I might even get me a one day pass to Loony Tune Land, just kidding but you guys know what I mean with the metaphor, right?
