So when I was younger meditation came extremely easy ..now a days it seems almost impossible quiet the stray thoughts ..its like the ultimate " oooh shiny moments" any suggestions would be very helpful ..this has stagnated my studies and attempts at furthering any magic work of recent!!

Well,my guess is that when you were younger your mind wasn't so busy processing information and events from your everyday life but as you got older those information and events became more in numbers and more complicated so those stray thoughts just appear all the time.Anyway, my advice is to stay away from it all for a while (like a day or two) and let your mind handle those events without adding more for it to process.However it is also possible to empty your mind of all thoughts no matter what your everyday life is,you just have to practice a lot for a fair amount of time.

(For whatever reason, people have told me that this isn't considered meditation)

Sometimes when I have trouble focusing I light a candle and focus on the flame. Sorry if that doesn't help you, love.

Concentrating on something to help clear your mind from stray thoughts may also help,but it doesnt have to be a flame,it can be anything(sound,smell,taste,picture).

Sounds are what I normally what I use due to closing my eyes when meditating . now they also seem to be the trigger to my ooh shiney moments one slightly different noise and my mind seems to go into overdrive
