Can spells Evolve?

Humans can evolve, and so does every other living creature, but can spells too? I know some people don't believe in evolution. But i think it applies to all aspects.
So can they? Like become more powerful, or more complex, or affect different things?

No. Spells do not evolve in my opinion. The casters evolve, their abilities in casting change which effects what they can do with spells.

I'd say magic evolves. My reasoning? As people of the world move about, communicate, and share knowledge pieces of other practices are taken into others. As Vodun practicers moved to other nations as slaves the practice changed in order to become doable under new conditions. In Haiti it became Vodou, in Miami it became Voodoo. They are each different despite similair practices. As people adapt and evolve so shall our practices.

Can spells reproduce? Can spells compete for a niche in the magical ecosystem with other spells? Can spells go extinct?

On a cultural level, maybe. But what would that even mean on a magic level?

Is a spell a living thing? Or is it more like a force of nature (that is...it doesn't evolve because it's not biological)?

I have found that spells evolve over time more often then not. A magical casting that is fed often to keep it in motion will evolve overtime as the practitioner evolves or increases their skills. Many wards and other protective castings are woven together as well. Sometimes this occurs due to the direct intention of the caster other times due to the energy evolving on it's own.

Depends on you it goes on your intent for the spell to evolve.

When i say evolve- i mean spiritually. I know spells aren't biological, that's just nuts. I asked- do they become more potent, or different or anything?
As time progresses, can they affect new things? Im trying to stay open minded too, considering Nothing stays the same forever, and how we view spells now MAY actually change in the future. And how its done in other places may be different, and how it may seem to work now, mat not exist later. Maybe we'll discover something new like we always do. Maybe things we know about spells arent 'official'.
Someone might be looking at me like i' some type of moron now.

wait, people don't believe in evolution? wtf

then why is it we keep changing our pestiside formulas? EVOLUTION! bugs and arachnids can become unaffected by our current brand of bug-killing spray and reproduce giving their offspring that same indifference to it

IMO evolution is change, just change. look at caterpillars they evolve into butterflies and what about your favorite game series?

Mario, Dead or Alive, Fatal Frame, ect the first series graphics evolved into what it is today! all HD and beautifully realistic (compared to the 1900's

im not forcing evolution down your throat but just remember that it isn't just Fish turning into humans over TIME

Yeah, some people are just stuck on the idea that things have always been like 'this' or should be like 'that'. But hey! It's whatever they want huh!

Well to my experience answer to your question is actually a bit contradictory one.

Cause on one side, NO spells in and on themselves do not evolve as there effects are always same as well as there purpose, but on the other hand what triggers them changes for every person to cast them and for some people that trigger changes multiple times so on that side you can say that they do.

I hope this made some sense as its rather hard to explain it.
