Long Lost Christianity?

Hello.
I'm Lovely. I've been 'born and rasied' "Southern Christian" since I was born. My entire family are very hardcore, and they love Christ. However, I've never felt at peace in a church, I've never felt like Christianity was in my blood and soul. I've always felt, I guess the best way to describe it would be 'out of touch,' with the God that I was supposed to love. I was so desprate to feel him that I got a tattoo on my arm of a cross. Of course it worked about as well as if I had got "Obey" witten on my arm instead.
I am not here to preach or tell you about your souls burning in hell. I don't believe in hell. How could an all loving God send a person to burn for eternity? I have such a long list of things that I don't agree with in Christianity that I can't name them all here. However, I'm not here to rag on it.
I'm here to understand you all better, and hopefully myself.
I do believe in something much bigger than myself, and I believe in respecting nature. Ever since I was a little girl every time I drank something, or ate something, I'd throw a little of it on the ground, without even thinking about it. My mother used to scold me and ask me why and I told her "the earth gives me a lot so a splash of water is my thank you." Of course my mother thought I was insane.
I believe with all my heart that respecting nature is one of the most wonderful things a person can do, not only for the world, but also for themselves.
I'm here to ask people if there are any books or websites that they would suggest that I read when attempting to learn more about Wicca and The Craft to help me decide if it is something I would like to presue or not.
I have tried searching the internet, but everyone seems to have different opinons on how to do this, or what needs that.
What I'd truely like is to find a mentor that I can trust to talk with me, whom I can ask question, and who can help me on this path.

I'm no mentor, but I'm happy for you to ask me questions in mail. Most of the people here will be happy to answer your questions, I'd actually be quite wary of self proclaimed mentors.

I liked Scott Cunningham when I was researching books on Wicca, he's a friendly writer and very knowledgeable. There's a whole section of these forums dedicated to the path. Good luck :)

Hi there, I?ve been practicing Wicca for a good many years now and one of the first questions that comes up is the one about where to start. My suggestion is always to start by doing some reading and studying to make certain that you understand what Wicca is really all about, and so that you can then decide whether this is truly the path that you want to follow. So with that in mind I thought I would offer some books and websites that are full of sound I information which can help you get started on your path.

To start with, here are some books that I would suggest.

''A Witch Alone'' by Marian Green
''The Elements of Ritual'' by Deborah Lipp
''Witchcrafting'' by Phyllis Curott
''21st Century Wicca'' by Jennifer Hunter
''Before You Cast a Spell'' by Carl McColman
''When, Why...If'' by Robin Wood
''Practical Pagan'' by Dana Eilers
''Wicca; A Year and a Day'' by Timothy Roderick

You can also find the recommended reading list that my coven uses at: http://www.tangledmoon.org/reading_list.htm

Here's some websites that you may find useful in helping you with questions.

Hope this helps you get a good start on your studies. And feel free to ask me, or the others here on the board if you have any specific questions we can help you with.

And as for lost Christianity, I stopped being a Catholic when I was about 14-15. But the Catholic Church never accepts an ex-Catholic! It always thinks that one will "come back" to the Church.
So, to the Church, I am a "lapsed Catholic".

I was not aware there was a "southern christian" demonination. I too am from the south, the predominant group of protestants in my area would be the southern baptist. Anyway....welcome :)

I agree with Lark on this. Also i would like to add to the material already said by Lark and that is Garden Witch's Herbal by Ellen Dugan, Master of Herbalism by Paul Beryl, and Being a Pagan: Druids, Wiccans, and Witches Today by Ellen Evert Hopman and Lawerence Bond. These helped me out a lot in understanding the use of Herbs and before those i had a Horticulture Herbal Book called The Medicinal Herb Grower" book--volume 1, by Richo Cech, Medical Herbalism, The Science and Practice of Herbal Medicine by David Hoffman and The Complete Book of Herbs: A Practical Guide to Growing and Using Herbs by Lesley Bremness. These books will help focus on explaining herbs both Magical and Medicine Uses including when to grow. I may not just only be a High Priest for a coven in Oklahoma but I'm also a Horticulturist.
