Blood magick is the act of using blood as a tool when making a protection amulet, performing a ritual, casting a spell, binding, hexing or cursing.

To add to wolf's reply, blood magic can be very dangerous. Sometimes even fatal, depending upon what you are doing. I'd advise against doing it, but if you'd like to try it, I'd suggest looking into a little more before attempting anything.

It is working with something symbolically representing the very essence that is you. Without blood we die. Blood nourishes our entire body. It is the fundamental material of your life force. Life is tied closely to spirit, therefore blood is willpower.

It can be used primitively to mark your territory (mark objects that you magickally claim "yours")
It can be used as a direct representation of your entire being willing something, therefore used in sigils often as both a "willing" and a "territory" device. It is also known to all, best as "signing in blood" which was the strongest signature one could sign an oath or contract with. Ask someone to sign something and they may do it without a second thought. Tell them to sign in their own blood and there is a certain natural protectiveness of the power of our blood over oneself that instinctively says "this is serious".

It can also be offered as a "mini" sacrifice/offering.

Having the blood of someone else is the most personal possession you can ever get your hands on and it can be used to connect a ritual or spell far more deeply, whether for nice or malicious reasons. Second would be urine, sperm, nails, or hair.

Menstral blood I see as entirely different and even more powerful. Most men feared the power of a menstrating woman because of it.

The blood of animals symbolizes the essence of that particular animal and holds their qualities within therefore lends the energy/power that that animal possessed in life. This also goes for any part of an animal, but blood is always seen as more potent.

using blood magic makes it more personal. as white revean said(im pretty sure i misspelt your name sorry) using blood magic, is the difference between just a petty thing, and going nuclear on a person. NOTE i use going nuclear as a extreme, it doesnt do that. i would not advise using blood magick on a doing a petty thing like influcing the weather. unless your 199% sure about using it. Using blood sumon to summon a spirit, is also a bad thing. while yes it is a quick way to get a spirit to come and pay attention to you. it can also start bad chain of events. im not sure what that chain of event is but my old preist said this, and i feel like a i can trust him on that.

You're right Micah, it isn't good to offer to an ordinary spirit. I won't go into that though because it would stray off topic. Blood offerings should only be used for deities and higher beings you call by name (knowing their background is a must). If everyone on earth practiced magick, you wouldn't go around handing your blood to any random Tom, Dick, or Harry, and you should never offer something so very personal to a random spirit (even if you "think" you know them). The deity/daemon/sidhe/etc should be called properly (so you know who is with you), I suggest doing it in sacred space that is warded in some way to allow only who is called, and then the offering or trade is done.

I use my blood when I consecrate and blessed my wands, runes,Athame, as the use binds the item to me and imbues my power and energy into the tools. I can sense my wands energy so far from 50 miles away. I just have to think of it and my spine tingles and my body feels its' energy.

Honestly, even when it comes to deity offering, hop on over to the Asian market and buy pig's blood, or if you're a woman use menstrual blood. But no goddess or god will cast down lightning bolts upon you for n o slicing your arm open for an offering. Really, it's unnecessary. I'd advise not going there.

I just happened to have pruned a lemon tree with the biggest spines I've ever felt, it went in appx. 3/4" I did not cut myself intentionally but since it was handy I mixed a few drops in my oil mixture. For consecrating any tool it is reccomended that you use your own blood as itimbues your energy and power into that tool. You will not get the same effect from Porcine,Bovine,or any other animal. This is what I was taught by my high preistess, and by my other resources.
