Death.

Hello,
With the amount of people stating they are vampires and immortals and the sort that do not die. I feel pity for them. First of all in the first paragraph I will explain the scientific reasons of death. In the second I shall explain my religions explanation, hence I say my religion the topic may be different for all viewers so afterwards share your belief on. The afterlife.

One must truly understand that without death there would be no life, that if you knew you were never going to die Then why do anything leave it and say I'll do that In a year? It's when the heart stops producing as many blood cells and you become more immune to flus, colds and viruses death is the mirror of life.
So why in the name of the nameless divine would you want to be a vampire, your skin all wrinkly.

In my religion, once death has come your spirit leaves your body. You are then gathered in a boat with all the other spirits that died on the same day as you and ferried across the waters and fogs of kaäl ta mishuu. The great sea once you reach the other side you are judged by the sentinel of souls who judges what you did when you were alive in the physical, the sentinel either shows you the path to the divines home or spirit work, when you spirit work you pay off your debts to the people you have wronged, you give them luck and you guide them you must do this to their descendants and their descendants until three millennia strikes then you are offered again to the sentinel and judged. If you pass you get a seat with the divine.

So I think the vampires have a problem if they do not wish to experience this.

Firstly I'd like to add to the scientific reasons for death. Death is necessary to free up room for the next generation and allow the population to evolve immunity to diseases and to expand its dominance. If we did not die there would be no room for the next generation and so we'd either eat ourselves out of house and home by consuming all the worlds resources (as we are now due to our high population) or we'd simply be wiped out by a single disease that we have no immunity to.

Now for my belief on death is that when we die our souls are returned to the land of which we were born. Not necessarily your physical birth but just where our heart feels you belong. You're then greeted by the gods of that land (for me that's Eriu, Banba and Fodla the triple goddess of the Irish land/kingdom of the Tuatha De Danann). After this you simply become a part of the land, you're present in the trees, the flowers, the air, the animals and the water as well as the hearts and minds of those still alive. Personally I see that as a rather serene fate, to be able to be a part of the place you love the most and to help it flourish but I can also see why many people may want to escape death.

I think those wishing to escape death are simply afraid and uncertain of what will come next, ultimately none of us really know, although we believe which in my opinion is even better as it saves on the disappointment in case you're wrong haha. Although that said I think many want to become the fictitious vampires to gain what they view as being superiority over their kin rather than to escape death, that's just a bonus. Unfortunately both authors and Hollywood have twisted the folk tales of vampires to idolize them when in fact the original tales picture them as being rather pathetic creatures, but that's a tale for a different post I'm afraid.

Neither of these posts really explains the science of death.
Death is the loss of energy!
The whole universe is built on energy. Everything that lives has energy. Everything that does not live has energy. The Sun is all energy! The Earth has enormous energy.
But energy dissipates. It gets less with time. Because energy is heat! And everything cools with time.
Why do we need food? Because the body turns it into heat;energy!
And when all the energy in matter cools, the body dies. But the energy does not ! It merely changes. Even a dead body has energy!

As an alternative:-

It doesn't matter what you've done, when you 'die' you go to a place of complete and total love. But you can't enter.

Instead you must take yourself away to a place where you must experience everything you have ever meted out on others, good and bad.

Once that is completed, you go for awhile to that place of love before returning to be re-born, bringing with you the lessons you learnt and unable to repeat past mistakes.

Eventually you become so perfect you get your own star, with its own set of planets, at least one of which you can generate life upon.

Oldeneworld, you are old enough to know better than to post a belief as though it is a truth!

Well Brysing, that's as far as I've got so far. Certainly there seems to be a fair bit of the Catholic purgatory in there, but if you recall Hamilton and Dunblane (eg) it certainly makes it the only true method of justice. Imagine; having to feel everything, physical, mental and emotional that you've caused.

Makes one want to live a better life.

The loss of energy does not explain death it merely describes it. I personally believe my post went some way to explaining the biological need for death although I may have worded it poorly, if so please forgive me but I attempted to emit the theories of maximizing reproductive fitness because I didn't want to get too heavy on the science. Death is a very different process to aging, not all animals age, take zebra fish or sponges for example. Animals age because they have evolved to produce as many children as possible, if you would like some references on the matter I am more than capable of providing them (see below). Death however may be from predation, infection, starvation, dehydration, the list goes on. It is the base mortality rate and reproductive rates of the species that determines the rate of senescence and thus life span of the animal. This is in order to maximize reproductive fitness and the number of genes that pass onto the next generation, it's better to have many children quickly than to have one and be eaten by a tiger before you can have another.

While death is the loss of energy it does not describe the reasons behind it and only describes the process. I would also add that death is not the transfer of energy (as you quite rightly indicated) as that energy is now taken up by detritivores and released as heat energy and decomposed organic matter to be used by plants. If you're looking for the the scientific reasons behind death I suggest Google scholar searches of the terms "Senescence" and "Reproductive fitness".

I said that you didn't "really explain the science of death"; not the biological reason for it! The reason for death is the same as the reason for life; procreation. Like all living things we are born, we procreate, then we die. It is the cycle of Life.

True but in the first post it was stated to be explaining "I will explain the scientific reasons of death." and my own "to add to the scientific reasons for death". I apologize if I seem disgruntled by your post, my rather unfortunate style of sarcastic humor tends to come across that way. However my interpretation of your post seemed to indicate to me that you were correcting the above posts rather than adding to them.

Again I don't mean to appear disgruntled or irritated and apologize if I came across that way or if I irritated you by the comment, I was merely providing the support for my argument.
