There are 2 methods I know about this. The first is to keep a pen and paper beside your bed and immediately write down what you remember when you wake up. This will bring you more conscious of your dreaming process. As for lucid dreaming, I suggest an anchoring technique. That is, choose a small behaviour, such as touching your nose or taking a deep breath. Practice this many times every day until it works. When you do this behaviour, remember that you are 'checking' to see if you are awake or asleep. The more often you practice this, the quicker it will work. Eventually, the behaviour will appear in your dream, and, as practiced, you will check, but this time you will find that you are asleep. Now, you are lucid dreaming, and the fun can begin.! Good luck :D

I suggest mental exercises, a strong mind more easily controls dreams.

Dreams are what you think about when you're asleep, if you are able to perhaps recognize when you are dreaming, then you can practice dream control by simply thinking and concentrating on aspects of your dreams.
Now your dreams are naturally fueled by the subconscious, it's normally an involuntary thing, so it can be very difficult; almost like keeping yourself from doing something instinctual or by reflex. This being, I suggest you start out slowly, doing easy tasks like trying to change the color of a car or trying to create random objects.

Remember it's all in the mind, it's your imagination, so meditation before slumber will help as well.
