Give up your Ouija Board!

Most everyone is interested in seances and spirit boards when they first get introduced to witchcraft and the occult. This is perfectly normal, I myself have dabbled with devices like the Ouija Board when I first started out. But at some point in your spiritual journey you need to learn how to trust in your own intuition and put the spirit board down.

I personally have never had a bad experience with a Ouija Board but taking note on what is going on with a friend of mine is the reason why I'm posting this.

Whatever his reason is he started dabbling in the occult after using a Ouija Board with me one day. He was impressed with the results and answers he got from the spirit board so much that he went out and bought one himself. He also bought a copy of Summoning Spirits by Konstantinos and has been trying to communicate with the spirits within that book with his spirit board.

Working with the spirit board and implementing the spirit sigils he had acquired in his book he started getting the answers he was looking for. A spirit claiming to be Michael told him the girl he liked and was afraid to talk to would fall in love with him if he just gave himself over to that spirit's will. Against my own advise he agreed to do this anyways.

Within a week the girl he liked broke up with her boyfriend and started dating my friend. Immediately after they started dating everything started to go wrong in his life. He got evicted from his house and found himself on the verge of loosing his job. Not to mention the girlfriend's ex started stalking the both of them and leaving them death threats on her voice mail. His life started spinning out of control and the more it seemed to do this the more he became obsessed with his spirit board.

He started hearing voices in his head and found himself unable to sleep because of this. I don't know if he has a history of mental illness but it seemed like he was exhibiting signs of oppression. He was angry because he couldn't get in touch with Michael anymore on his spirit board. He said a spirit named Zazel was the only thing that would talk to him now. He claimed that this was the spirit in his head and it was making him extremely angry all the time.

I told him that he needed to get rid of the Ouija Board and to quit treating it like a telephone. I was genuinely concerned for him. He needed to ground himself and banish the thing that was tormenting him. Him being a dabbler and not doing any real research on witchcraft and the occult he found himself unable to understand the importance of this. He felt that the one book he read was all he needed to know and I was being condescending to him. He claimed the spirit was telling him this and he said that the spirit wanted him to fight me. After arguing with the guy I kicked him out and he hasn't talked to me since.

Here's the lesson. Due to ignorance the guy didn't know what he was dealing with when he started talking to spirits through his Ouija board. He never took any precautions like banishing or shielding, he just dove right in. Whether or not this being was a spirit or a figment of his imagination he gave this entity power over him by giving it permission to work through him. It used his desire and lust against him so it could trick him into submitting his will over to this spirit. The spirit rendered him powerless so it could ruin his life.

The interesting thing about this situation is how the Ouija Board drew him in. He became obsessed over it so much that it became an addiction. I don't care who you are if your going to dabble, make sure you understand the basics and do your research before hand. Messing with spirits can cause you a great deal of harm if you treat them like someone you can text or call up on the phone. If your going to work with spirits you need to develop a sense of self discipline and respect for otherworld so that you don't become a victim like my friend. Work with a system that establishes some core beliefs and utilize the knowledge you've gained from it to correctly practice divination, evocation, invocation and magick. Laziness begets weakness. Knowledge and research is key if you want to successfully work with spirits.

Marlowe~ This is beautiful! I also knew of such a person. He went clinically insane after becoming addicted to the board. Most practitioners I know of that employ these are seasoned, and know how to use them expertly. Sound advise!

I have no patience for the boards. If a spirit wants to talk it can come find me. Otherwise I will refrain from conversing other than to ask certain spirits to carry certain spells.

What people don't understand is that malicious spirits or demons will do this without hesitation, and will lie about trivial things such as names.

I have never used a Ouija board, I always just channel them. This way you know who your talking to, and have a sense of control over who talks to you, instead of just some random spirit. There are safer modes of divination as well, such as pendulum dowsing. but nonetheless my point is you shouldn't trust any spirit you come in contact with if you don't know them. Play it safe, and only channel your spirit familiars, and be aware that there are malicious spirits in this world.

While I get that you are warning against legitimate things, I feel you should be stating your arguments towards the problematic mindset that involves delving into spiritual communication and the stigma involving Ouija boards. If you don't know the basics of communing with spirits, don't know how to take precautions, using a Ouija board, other tool, or yourself will not make a difference.

All a Ouija board is is a tool and it can be used as a legitimate spiritual tool if one treats it like one instead of treating it like a b rated colloge horror movie (the movie Seance comes to mind).

If you actually read my post you would know that the individual using the spirit board had a problematic mindset. That mindset was obsession.

People are more of a danger to themselves then a spirit talking to them through a Ouija Board. As I mentioned before giving spirits permission to come through and feeling powerless over them can result in harm coming to them.

The point is there is a required mindset one must have before using a device like this. They have to know they are in control over the situation.

That's why there are traditions who do rituals which create enough psychodrama for the magician to believe that he is standing in the place of God prior to evoking a spirit. But we are talking about Ouija Boards not High Magick.

There is nothing complex about a Ouija board. The user makes it complex when they implement it in rituals or use it as a means of psychodrama.

For me, I say a short prayer of protection to Hecate and open the veil by taking a few deep breaths, meditating, lighting some incense and lighting a few candles.

It's up to the individual who uses the Ouija Board to take precautions prior to using it. Some people say a prayer of protection others place a cross or religious item on their spirit board for protection. No psychodrama is the same and the possibilities could be limitless.

If I was to ever have a problem with a Ouija Board I would simply banish the entity that resided within it and consecrate the the spirit board. S. Connolly has a great method that deals with infected spirit boards but I prefer to use Koetting's incantation for banishing spirits who linger.

This is a modified version of Koetting's Banishing which can be found in Evoking Eternity. Before you judge this is Chaos Magick. It works for me because I believe it will work.

Begin by smudging the infected Ouija Board with white sage. As the smoke envelopes the spirit board visualize all negativity and negative spirits leaving the spirit board and leaving your home. As you visualize this repeat the following:

Ashtu Malku ta dat Arkata Astus Seckz Altamu Partu Iretempal Krez Ta Felta Vaskalla Regent Met Senturus Ta Sastrus Estos Melta Kelta, Kelta, Kelta, Hine.

For more information on Connolly's method it can be found in the Keys of Ocat pages 128-129.

I did read your entire post, but how it looks is that you were stating the Ouija board was the problem (I mean, come on, it's in the title). You don't go onto explain that there is nothing wrong with the board itself, but you give several points pertaining his problems with it. In the world of social media, what you intend and what is interpreted is not always the same thing. Had a newbie come by this, they would have been scared from ever using a board.

I do not intend to be rude with what I say, though I am merely making points that were brought up in my mind as I read this and figured I'd share them.
