don't jump into spells. do the basics first and then depending on the intent and cause, cast a spell. make sure you are not casting any fluffy spell. as long as your intent and concentration is there, you'll be able to cast any good spells, but first learn the basics.
There are a few spells that will help you as you discribed, but since you are new they wont do any good. You first need to understand what magick is. Like the person above me, dont try to cast any Fluffy spells (ie. Vampire, faerie, werewolf spells, transformation spells, change how you look spells, realm creation spells, stuff along those lines.) They often have very risky rituals that you could harm yourself during the prossess, and they wont work at all. Also as said before try meditating, grounding and visualizing. Honestly, If you are truely just starting out, like in the first week or so, I suggest you research more than anything. Never jump into anything , magick or otherwise, without knowing facts first
I'm new to this all too, and I've been asking around for beginner spells too. What people have told me is that there aren't specific beginner spells really, but a good place to start is defensive spells. I'm not yet sure if any of my spells have been successful, so good luck.
I'm also new to this site but not new to magic I have read that meditation ect. Is very importent ! And begginner spells well you only start really learning when you start the practice but basics first ! So try something like candle spells my first spell was a eye coulor changing spell
If you want to include alot of different materials in your spells then a good way to do that would be by studying and implementing different correspondences into your work. Planetary, candles, herbs, oils, i use bible versus also and sigils. It helps to be more specific i think though. Not just casting to cast but as a means to an end.
