What is a satanist?
By:
I am contemplating different spiritual paths to see which fits my beliefs best. The only religion I have no sources on is Satanism and it's different sects. I know that there are satanists on this site and I would like for them to share their knowledge with me so I may better understand their methods. If someone does not wish to let it be known what they practice but would still like to aid me them message my account with the information. Thank you for your time.

LaVeyan Satanists are basically atheists. They do not worship the devil or any deity contrary to popular belief. The belief is that we are all our own individual gods and we are in charge of our own actions.

Here's a website that you can check out to get a better idea of what it's about:

there is another type of satanism too. its called spiritual satanism. they worship and believe in the devil and demons. basically, they celebrate the existence of spiritual beings, like these enities. they also are in the belief that hell is also a place.

LeVayan satanism is not quite atheism, it's indifference. It is consider atheistic satanism because that's as close to atheism in Satanism as it gets (besides Rational Satanism which I'm still not too clear on). LeVayan Satanism is not necessarily about being a god in the sense of being a "divine" force, but more about being in charge of your own destiny as someone else put it (just to clarify).

Spiritual Satanism does not always include demons, devils, or even Satan. Satanism is an umbrella term that includes religions that have everything to do with demons and religions that have nothing to do with demons. The term "Satanism" does not only apply to anti-Christian or polar opposite Christian beliefs (devils and such).

Luciferianism is the best example I can think of off the top of my head. This religion is a type of spiritual Satanism that more or less associates with older ideas behind Lucifer than the Christianized "King of Hell". They don't really work with demons to my knowledge and I don't see "devils" in particular having much of a place in this religion.

Just shedding some light since Satanism is very misunderstood. I commend you BoneWalker for seeking to understand it better.

Why thank you for the complement and I always study a group and their ideas before I fall prey to propaganda. One can not know a thing until taught what it truly is.

You're quite welcome. I have always been fascinated with satanism due to some unknown reason.
