Samhain

Wishing everyone a wonderful Samhain/Hallows Eve/ Halloween/La Dia de Los Muertos. I hope that everyone has an exciting but relaxing holiday before the Dead Times. If you unfamiliar with the Dead Times here is a bit about it;

Some believe a new year starts with Samhain (October) others feel it is at Yule (December). I personally believe the year ends with Samhain and we pass into a "Dead Time". The year is then started again at Yule. This is a representation of our life as we grow as humans. During the Dead Time we pass into the spirit world of our life for a little while to reflect on what we have accomplished in life and especially the past year. Here meditation on what we have planted in spring and reaped in the fall is pondered. This is the time to figure out what has worked well in life and is worthy of repeating. It is also necessary to look at what did not work well and should be left to die. When the Dead Time is over (at Yule) you will return to the world of the living to prepare yourself for the following year. It is a good idea to keep a journal of your thoughts at this time to help you start again in the new year. You can even make a new years resolution.

I have a question. I know what Samhain is and why we celebrate it...my question is are there ways you can celebrate it when you can't use candles, incense, cook your own meal, or eat at your own dinner table...

See I am in college and they have put a ton of restrictions on what we can and cannot do...and the kitchen in our dorms is currently closed down so I can't use that...I am kind of out of ideas on how to celebrate...

If you find it in your heart, you can just leave something outside your door for those that are forgotten about. Just leave something for the lost souls.. An apple or just something to make them feel like they have not been forgotten about..

Blessed Be.

May we sweep out the old, and make room for the new. Happy Samhain to all, and blessings.
