Melancholy Spirit

So my guardian spirit/spirit whom I befriended as a child and watches over me hasn't been acting himself recently. He goes through this every once in a while, but it's kinda hard to watch. A few times a year he gets saddened by his situation. Whenever I talk to him about it, he says that he feels like he's only an observer forced to watch what people do around him and not being able to participate. I know not much can be done about this to fix the problem so all I feel like I can do is comfort.

I know that spending time with him and doing small activities with him sometimes makes him feel better, but do you guys know of anything else I could try to help?

It's hard to describe. I see him in my mind and I can seem him visual, but at the same time, I can't see him visual like I'd see a living person.

If you have a safe place to try it and know some of his hobbies you could try letting him posses your body for a short amount of time to interact with the world a little more directly. Let him learn some kind of craft like knitting and see how it affects him.

I can see what I can do about finding him a hobbie.

Some spirits, much like humans, can go through changes, evolve, or simply be going through a rough time.

You could try astral projection and joining him there. Very cautiously, you could lend him energy. But be careful.
