Why is it that anyone that believes in supernatural beings such as vampires, werewolves, mermaids, etc. classed as fluffy?

What is so wrong about believing in these beings, why are we shot down so quickly by others on this site. What is so unbelievable about these beings?

I am so curious, I have been called fluffy on numerous occasions despite never claiming to be one of these mythical creatures as it states in the "SoM Survival Guide".

It is not wrong, otherwise, there would not be such thing here in the forum. I think it is called fluffy depending of the situation or context.

Well my personal opinion would be cause most of the visitors of SOM are teenagers and most of them could think of this site as "role play" and that might cause problem for the more serious learners.. I mean most of the time it could be just that a lie ( assuming that these creatures do exist ) and there is the fact that there is no proof even amongst the serious magickal community for their existence. Like, logically speaking, physically transforming into a wolf then turning into human or superhuman speed and strength those things are just unnatural ( to me ) and magick is supposed to be about nature. And of course there is those Hollywood movies. There is no problem in believing in them cause well your belief is yours but then again amongst others who do not have the same belief it is helpful to be a bit conservative. Hey I believe in dragons ( astral ones ) and we all believe in magick and to someone who don't get it, don't believe that magick exists we might be "bunch of crazy people" but amongst people with similar belief we are accepted. But then again that's my personal opinion I don't really know if those creatures exist and then again I won't say they don't exist cause well I believe in dragons which live in astral realm :p . Hope this helped. Blessed be

Its not believing in them that's wrong, it's when someone insists they're a vampire when people call them out as fluffy. There are still many mysteries in this world, but there are also millions of scientific facts which is why when someone claims to be a physical mermaid or faerie or whatever people call them out. Astrally or as an energy most in the pagan community will not call you fluffy for believing they are real, but refusing to accept fact will result in people calling you fluffy.

Thank you for the replies.
I believe in both astral beings as well as genuine flesh and blood creatures.
As a biologist I take a very scientific approach to the genetic and evolutionary side of supernatural beings.
I just find it very insulting that in many of the forum posts, some people are calling others out as stupid for believing in such beings.

This site it designed to be a place to go to be supported, to speak to other who won't call you stupid for believing in magic and its use.

Rikki,

This has sparked a desire in me to talk to you. Shoot me a message. I am one of the constant complainers about fluffy mail coming in my inbox, but I never met someone on here who considers the evolution and biological facts about the chances that these creatures may be out there, undiscovered. I will be respectful; I'd like to have a friendly conversation about your beliefs, because I genuinely find them interesting. Have a good day! :)

All right, prepare for a rant from Tabby-chan.

Hey. My name is Tabby-chan and I have been dealing with this issue on tumblr for the past week so I have some points I'd like to get out before I just stop. But. I personally believe that you are allowed to believe in, practice, call yourself whatever you want. I'm known to say "I'm a princess" randomly on occasion simply to boost my self esteem and lighten my mood a bit. I've been varying shades of neo-pagan for the past three years and have been interested in neopaganism for 5 years. I've tried my best to be polite and I admit that originally what drew me to magick was originally the Holloweentown series of movies they ran on Disney when I was roughly nine years old. I admit I didn't handle my first set of tarot cards until I was 14 and I admit I wasn't very good with them at first. But I've been called fluffy even though I do my best to be polite and good-natured and in fact I never once mentioned how I became interested in wicca and neopaganism up until today. I get so sick of people calling me fluffy when honestly my best friend in the whole world has been wiccan for seven years and still occasionally asks me stuff regarding various rituals because while I don't know exactly how to do all these things I have looked into them and I've made an attempt to remember the important details that make up this religion. I'm not saying that sometimes the teenagers on this site take it too far and act like vampires and mermaids and stuff. But not all wiccans, Neopagans, and other practitioners who have been drawn to those religions by films or book series roleplay and some of us try to take things seriously.

and also- theres nothing stopping us from being like these myths. like meaning having similar traits, not like growing a tail over night. such as having the spirit of a wolf inside you (mentioned before)
