Herbal Salve for Pain

Merry Meet!

I am new so I apologize if I am posting my question in the wrong area.

My husband had a pretty severe stroke earlier this year and is reeling from its affects. He is on the mend, however slow, but has significant neuropathy throughout the left side of his body. As his arm and leg begins to heal and life starts slowly moving through the limbs, it causes an extreme amount of pain. He has described it as being burned alive while someone scratched the burning flesh with razor blades. I want to make him a salve or lotion I can massage into the linbs that will help ease the nerve pain a bit.

I am working on a few ideas, but since I am no expert, I was hoping someone may have some insight or expertise on what herbs have shown to work well in this area. He really doesnt want to take the prescribed medications (narcotics) the doctors have given him, he's never been a pill guy. And I really cant blame him, the effects these toxins have on your body can be quite severe. Unfortunately the pain at this point is so severe he doesn't have many choices until we can find an alternative or the pain subsides on its own, which can take years.

Thank you in advance for you help.

Blessed Be,
Rose

Oh, wow. I'm so sorry to hear your husband suffering so. I've only dealt with mild pain herbally, arnicum or menthol-camphor balms... Clove oil is supposed to be an anaesthetic but that might only work on the skin. Standard disclaimers for these herbal recommendations apply: careful for allergic reactions and stuff.

THank you for the quick response Aeons_Wing, very much appreciated. I've used clove oil mixed with black tea leaves as a poultice for him when he had a gum infection after he came out of him coma (it also works great on any small skin infections, pustules, cysts ,etc) to pull the infection out and take care of the pain. But I bet it would work in a salve or oil, in addition to other herbs.

Nerve pain is so complex, the trial and error method is what we have had to do for the last 5 months. I have had a hell of a time finding something that will work. Even the medications the doctors prescribe do very little.

Anyway, thank you, the clove oil is a great start. I think that will be a good base for our next try.

Many Blessing to you )O(

So glad you are trying natural means aong with Western Med. Birch is another essential for pain...included in many blends. Its potent and can cause skin irratation so its best to use a carrier oil. The best for lasting is jojoba oil...it does not turn rancid. Lasts forever and is closest to our natural body oil. The tissues drink it in and that's what you what...for it to carry the essential oils deep to where the problem is. Touch is important for healing, your intent, your love will be of huge benefit. Its hard caring for someone, so make sure you take care of yourself too so you can give your best. Have you thought about accupuncture? Chinese med is way ahead of western for dealing with pain and many other issues. Its about bringing the body back into balance. Ask around and find a good one who has experience with stroke. Good luck to you both!

2-3 drops eucalyptus in tablespoon olive oil works great. But in this case, the narcotics might be the only real relief. They can be harmful if taken in over prescribed doses. But let me tell you, I take them correctly, as I could not function without them. I am disabled with pain from fibromyalgia and arthritis. Its something that will only get worse. Your father is on his way to healing, which I am so glad to hear. Another way might be hypnosis. I've heard good things about it. My hopes are for your father to recover quickly, as to not need help with the pain. He is on the road to recovery. Keeping him relaxed is important, as this also helps me. Chamomile tea, on its own or with peppermint, will help relaxation. Aroma therapy might be good. Lavender is great for this. Visualizing blue light around him for calming, then turn into white to heal might be good. Its in the brain, not his legs, that needs to heal. The brain is reconnecting/rewiring itself, and just needs time. May he heal fast. Blessed Be...

Have you tried healing your husband?
That might be the best and most permanent way to help with his pain.
Beginner healers are able to take pain out of the body if they use the energy the right way.

You may want to look into salves containing Cannabis specifically ones with THC. These work for some mild to moderate pain in the joints and muscles. I understand not wanting to take the prescriptions for pain since I suffer from arthritis. I use a salve that contain Cannabis which I rub into problem areas several times a day.

I took a look into my BoS and I actually had written down a note that turmeric helps with chronic pain, I don't have anything else on it, but maybe it's worth looking into?

One must not be too afraid of modern, pain killing, drugs. All drugs originally came from plants! And all medicines have "side effects", even herbal ones.
