This sounds ridiculous,

But, what do you do with the offerings on your altar? I always give mine back to the Earth (burying them). It's worked for me in the past, but do you think it is appropriate for offerings to the Gods?

I have very little knowledge in this area but I know in the past offerings were often burnt. I think that burying your offering is acceptable as your returning them to nature and as you say it has always worked for you in the past so you shouldn't second guess yourself.

Burying them into the Earth is a good method. Some deities, like Loki and other fire etins, it would be more appropriate to burn the offering- like mentioned. Other deities, like Hel and death/rot related deities, like offerings to be left in a place where they can decay.

I think you have it on key. But like the above said, depends on the god/goddess/power you worship.

Bury them, burn them, feed them to wild animals, throw them in a river, set them somewhere to rot, etc.

I leave them outside to give back to the earth and the critters to eat them.
