This thread should be moved on magical items not on herbalism.

However flying through a broomstick is impossible

The sweeping of a besom (broom) from east to west/west to east is a room/space cleansing practice. Some find it a crucial step in making sacred space for practices. Others find use in the clearing of unwanted energies to help bring in wanted energies.

No witches did not fly on broomsticks. What one could possibly do is meditate with a broom near by or whilst touching a broom and use the broom as a means of astral travel. Though of course none of this is physical. So the broom would really just be a symbolic representation of travel to help do so astrally.

the besom [broom] has been used for centuries for many different uses, magical or mundane, but i'm sad to say flying's not one of them. one of the many stories told to scare people a long time ago that stuck.
