i don't know, it's been questioned. i think it's because while you can't become a vampire, some people do magic where they use blood and may call upon vampires in the astral for help. same with werewolves, faeries and dragons. my other theory is, the moderators are too busy to delete spells like this

http://www.spellsofmagic.com/spells/fantasy_spells/dragon_spells/8569/page.html

so they put it in the fantasy section in the hopes people will realize they're for fun. kinda like saying Bloody Mary in your mirror, you know it won't work, but your hair will still stand on end the first time you try.

Moderators and editors cannot edit nor delete spells, regardless, from my understanding.

Those spells exist because we have members who add them to the spellbook. As personified said, at this time moderators do not have the authority to edit or delete spells. I am a bit concerned and more than a little amused to hear of people using their blood to summon vampires on the astral....I mean really folks? Its just role play, those with the knowledge and skill to actually travel to the astral will most likely have better things to do with their time and magical skills than to waste it in such an endeavor. Its just more role play.

more role play is the equivalant in a nut shell to mind games some people think its real yet you don't explain to them the true art to magic why have it secret because you just observe.

As previously mentioned, the site Admin(s) are probably too busy to worry about it and thus place them in the fantasy section in the hopes that individuals will be able to use logic and common sense when it comes to such matters. Unfortunately, it seems willful ignorance seems to run rampant around here. We all do what we can to help members with the facts, but if they already have an idea of how they think magic should work, it usually doesn't do much good.

Wiz, as previously stated, we do explain the difference between reality and fantasy here and have done so numerous times. However, individuals come to this site with a glamorized, Hollywood idea of what magic is and what it can do. When told the facts they become angry and at times they refuse to listen.

If they refuse to listen to reason and refuse to use common sense that isn't our problem it's theirs. We do what we can to properly inform and educate anyone new to the site and to magic about the facts. They either believe us or they don't.

We don't play "mind games" here. That is far from the point and purpose of this site.

"We do what we can to properly inform and educate anyone new to the site and to magic about the facts. They either believe us or they don't."

But aren't we sort of sending them mixed signals by having a spells section which says one thing and a forum which says another?

Which is why I said the following statement before that:

"As previously mentioned, the site Admin(s) are probably too busy to worry about it and thus place them in the fantasy section in the hopes that individuals will be able to use logic and common sense when it comes to such matters. Unfortunately, it seems willful ignorance seems to run rampant around here."

If someone doesn't understand the meaning of the word fantasy that is willful ignorance. After ready that those spells are there and then asking "If spells are in the fantasy section that means they don't work right?" Then being told "Yes, that's correct. All spells in the fantasy section are pure fantasy and don't work." And still believing that they work, who's fault is that? The site or the individual that can't comprehend the meaning of a word?

I agree that willful ignorance is certainly a factor here, but I believe general disinformation on magick is also quite to blame.

Two beliefs that seem to be common with self-taught newbies are that magick can do absolutely anything, and the impressiveness of a spell directly correlates to the amount of faith which drives it. The prior seems to come from a horrendous misunderstanding of Crowley's "Magick is the science and art of causing change in conformity with Will," and I'm honestly unsure where the latter springs from.

These combine into them believing that the reason you and I say werewolf spells aren't real is because we lack sufficient belief in werewolf transformation to make them work. This faith-centric way of viewing things also seems to make it easy to interpret "fantasy spells" as being "spells which do things spoken of in fantasy and/or those spells which science-minded greyfaces can't perform."

I again agree that one would need to be pretty ignorant to believe that, but we must remember that a lot of these people aren't even in high school yet, and it's pretty counter-intuitive to have a magick site that has nine sections of real spells and then a section of completely BS spells. Imagine if some other site did that - a health site with 10% crazy BS, or a history site with 10% made up stories. Anywhere else that would be considered unacceptable and really bizarre.

I recognize that the admin totally has better things to do, but couldn't there be even just a single mod dedicated to sweeping out the trash spells?

I'm not saying that such spells aren't misleading, I'm simply saying that an individual should be able to tell the difference between real and imaginary. Though, perhaps that's just me being overly confident in the capabilities of the individual.

I believe that the Priest/Priestess has the ability to edit and delete spells and rituals from their coven spellbooks (or at least I am able to do so with the spellbook for Penta Magic), therefore, a lot of it also falls onto the coven leaders and who they place as councilors (the only individuals other than the coven leaders that can post spells). I believe that most of the covens are quite respectable and do regularly check their spellbooks for fluff, but I'm sure some of them also don't.

A quick spellbook clean-up would help fix some of the problem, however, anyone in Spellcasters can add spells and they have no coven leader(s) to edit their spells. So, I don't think we will ever really be free of such spells.

Steps could be taken to correct the problem, but I don't know if it could be entirely fixed. Whether it be in the spell sections or in the forums, those type of spells will always mangle to wiggle their way onto the site regardless of what anyone does.
