Incenses?

I've recently bought incenses of different herbs (orchid, lotus, sandalwood, peppermint...)
Do they hold the same properties as the herbs themselves, not always or not at all?

Usually. As long as that incense was made purely from the herb. You may want to find out if there were other herbs or ingredients added to make the incense.

If stick or cone incense, they will also carry the properties of the resin or oil used to make them.

get some good organic incense, it has a very very beautiful aroma that still holds the magical properties of the herb. sandlewood is fantastic in a general ritual! very useful!

If you're concerned on purity of the incense, you can always make your own, it is surprisingly uncomplicated.

Most commercially bought incense are fragranced with synthetic chemicals and compounds, so as far as their properties are concerened, as an herbalist I feel that their properties are not same as if they used the actual herbs or resins. You could always make your own as wofshade suggested or look for herbal incense, however be careful of herb/synthetc hybrids that use both the herb and synthetic fragrances and compounds.

You can also simply buy the herbs themselves, dry them, and burn them. They will burn very similarly to incense when dried. If you do this then you know you are getting one of the purest forms.

I know from reading up on the subject that some incense are associated with different spells and rituals. Incense in turn can also carry the magical associations of the herb of which it has been made from.
