Destructive magic

I read in an article that if you use wood from a dying tree it will make a destructive wand. I am making a wand but I couldn't tell if the tree I got it from was dying, should I stare over? Are there consequences if I make a destructive wand by accident?

First and foremost, the wand is what you put into it. Your purpose for the wand will ultimately determine the outcome. There are lists of the special properties of wood when using to make wands. For example, Willow is used in divination, love, protection and healing. Look on Google for lists of magickal woods and their uses. Pay attention to how the wood is collected as well. You shouldn't just go cut a branch off. And as far as consequences...if on accident, I would think not. It all comes back to your intent

I agree with all Jynjer says; especially the cutting of a branch. Before cutting a wand (branch) sit with your back to the tree. "absorb" the spirit. IN your mind (or even outloud) ask the tree if you may cut the branch. Afterwards, thank the tree. In your mind, or even out loud!
Dress your wand with small things that have meaning for you. Mine has a small crystal embedded at one end; and coloured beads. I also dress my wand as to the seasons; at the moment it is dressed for Samhain.

Ok thanks for the helpful information! Another thing I was wondering is magic more controlled or effective using a wand vs hands?
