Spell CastingHow to Hallucinate at Will By David Barron
This article is to describe my exploration into voluntarily altering visual perceptions, aka "hallucinate". This will include how to create visual perceptions first with eyes closed and then how to do them with eyes open.
The first question one might ask would be "Why would you want to know how to hallucinate?"
The answer is a matter of CONTROL, specifically self control. We often boast about the power we have over our lives and the world. Gaining the ability to control our mind to such an advanced level enhances one's sense of self. If you are able to control your perception you can equally control your patiences, your attitude, your mood, your motivation and other parts of your life that others leave to fate.
As a hypnotist, it is my job to direct the attention of my client in order to gain a specific result. All I do is tell people what to pay attention to. Here too, you are learning a skill that is based entirely on being able to direct your attention.
How to create hallucinations with eyes closed My personal history consists of 40+ years of daily meditation and an intense interest in hypnosis and mind control. This interest included exploring how my awareness changes as I go to sleep at night. This has yielded a method I can use to quickly and consistently create very vivid closed eye visions. These are not typical "dreams" by several of the following standards:
The following steps are fairly simple and have worked consistently for me. They do require practice but I'm convinced other people will be able to accomplish vivid eyes closed hallucinations fairly quickly.
Step One. Set your intent. You are going to follow the steps so you can become aware of, and enhance, visual hallucinations while your eyes are closed.
Step Two Lay down and begin with full body relaxation from head to toe. Removing any tension from the body will help minimize physical distractions.
Step Three Once the body feels sufficiently relaxed. Turn your awareness to the internal auditory dialogue of the mind and diligently work to quiet them. It is amazing how many thoughts in the form of speech, voices and dialogue is happening all the time. When aware of any words or chatter politely "shh" the mind. Just keep doing it. The purpose of these last two steps are to reduce distractions and make it easier to focus on visual impression the mind make.
Step Four Only NOW are you ready to focus on whatever images your mind is creating. Many of these images will be from memories, things your saw during the day, some from imagination, some from trying to focus on an idea. It's important to not cling to any image, in fact, as soon as you recognize a mental image, let it go and look for the next one. This requires a focused intent and may not be easy for the first few minutes. Keep at it. If you begins to hear mental chatter or feel body tension immediately let it go and return to focusing only on your mental images.
Step Five Doing this for a short time you should notice that occasionally an image is very vivid. If you linger long on the image or get excited at the discovery it will be more likely to dissolve. The solution to this is to search within the image for a detail you were not aware of. This is often best done by moving your gaze to a random corner of the vision until you become aware of something. Then immediately move it to another area.
Step Six Persist. Keep at it. Doing this in a systematic way as described will eventually lead to some amazing persistent eyes-closed hallucination that can be intensely detailed.
How to create hallucinations with eyes open I fell upon this method by shear experimentation and was amazed at the result. The process took me about 10 minutes of practice but I was surprised I could vividly "see" a Heinz ketchup bottle floating in the air. I could rotate it at will and even read the detailed letters on the label. I've since then successfully taught this technique to many students and clients. Begin by imagining a circular rotating platform a.k.a, a turntable that is floating flat parallel with the floor at eye level and within arms reach. You don't have to actually see it yet, just pretend it is there and located at a fixed point in space. To get accustomed to the location of the turntable use your index finger to touch the outer edge of it and begin to move your finger in a circular pattern trying to duplicate the movement as if the turntable was real. Start slow. Making only short movements of only a few inches at a time. With a little practice (2 to 10 minutes) you will get the feel of how your finger would move if you were using it to rotate the turntable. The movement should be smooth and even while keeping your eye focused on your fingers movement. This process is designed to integrate the tactile movement and feel of the hand and finger with where your eyes are gazing. Do this until you can smoothly move your finger in a circle while touching the imaginary turntable. By this time you might be able to "see" (hallucinate) the turntable. If not, don't worry just continue.
Conclusion I have a great deal of confidence these techniques can work with anyone who will devote enough practice to them. The main factor in your success is your motivation. With motivation your ability to focus your attention will skyrocket and you should be able to create complete hallucination at will.
