Spell Casting

The SATOR charm is a simple charm that can be used to protect from negative influences. It is formed from five words of five letters each. It is a two dimensional palindrome, read the same backwards and forwards, top to bottom or bottom to top. The five words are in Latin, or thought to be, and was originally found at the ruins of Pompeii. The five words are translated as:

  • SATOR: (from serere=to sow) Sower, planter; founder, progenitor (usually divine); originator
  • AREPO: Unknown, likely a proper name, either invented or, perhaps, of Egyptian origin
  • TENET: (from tenere=to hold) holds, keeps; comprehends; possesses; masters; preserves
  • OPERA: (noun) work, care; aid, service, effort/trouble; (from opus): works, deeds.
  • ROTAS: (accusative plural of rota) wheels

One likely translation is "The farmer Arepo has [as] works wheels [a plough]"; that is, the farmer uses his plough as his form of work. It can be read the same forward and backward in Latin.

To make the SATOR charm you will need a sheet of blank white paper at least 8”x8” square, Dragon’s Blood Ink, a red pen, rosemary essential oil and the tools for casting a circle.

Cast your circle. Once it is cast, take the blank piece of paper, the Dragon’s Blood Ink and your pen, and draw the following words in a square:

SATOR

AREPO

TENET

OPERA

ROTAS

Anoint the edges of the paper with the rosemary essential oil. State something to the effect of “I charge this charm of SATOR for the purpose of protection and magical defense.” Then, raise or draw down energy into the charm. Continue to direct energy into it until you can see it start to quiver in your perception. When finished, give the Sign of Silence to seal the energy into the charm. Then close the circle as normal.

Once completed, you should hang the charm above your front door. If you would like extra protection you can charge several and hang them above all the doors and windows in your home.
