This is the story about the seasons and the Fall and Spring Equionix.
In the story, Persephone was the daughter of Demeter, goddess of agriculture and Zeus- he had many relationships. Hades- the god of the underworld- was Persephone's uncle and fell in love with her. He wanted to marry her and told Zeus about his plan. Zeus told him that Demeter would oppose of this idea, as her daughter would live in a wasteland. Zeus suggested to kidnap Persephone and so Hades followed his orders.
One day, when Peresphone was picking flowers with her friends, Hades came out of the ground and pulled her into his chariot so fast that no one could rescue her. She called out to her mother, however Demeter couldn't find her. She traveled for nine days straight, yet found no trace. During this time, she destroyed crops and other parts of nature as she was so sad. To stop her chaos, Hecate told about Persephone being kidnapped by someone unknown. Helius witnessed the event and told it to the two.
Demeter was very upset and refused to accept Persephone marrying Hades. She roamed the Earth and wherever she went, she made the land infertile. She became a servant to a Greek queen, disguised as a human. She took a liking to the baby prince and tried to make him immortal. However, the queen found out and became furious.
Demeter became so upset, she made the entire planet barren and infertile, until Persephone was returned. Zeus then sent Hermes to collect her in the Underworld. Hades eventually accepted, however Persephone was hungry as she never ate for one year. Hades told her to eat a pomegranate seed to not starve and to bring good luck, which Persephone eventually ate. Demeter and Persephone were reunited and she told her mother about her experience. Demeter told her that she ate the fruit of the underworld and whoever does must return to the underworld for six months.
Since then, the seasons began. In the spring and summer, Demeter is happy that she has her daughter with her and makes crops grow. However, in the winter and fall, Peresphone lives with Hades and Demeter, in grief, doesn't let crops grow. This is why we celebrate the two equionixes.
