Contrary to contemporary pop-culture definitions, g*psy does not mean free-spirited, eco-friendly, a world adventurer, or even hippie or bohemian. G*psy is actually a racist slur for a group of people; the Romani (or Roma). Read up on these things before you go quoting some random site or making things up. https://maineethics.com/mainemusings/whyyoucantsaygypsy

Actually, jeremiah is correct. The term is a derogatory slur against a specific culture [the Romani/Roma people] it has been used over the years and has warped into this ''mystical fortune telling wild spirit'' thing with a specific look and feel. You may not see it as insulting, but there are many who do. It's a touchy subject since some see it as a positive term and use it for their path, but at the end of the day it is a derogatory term. LittleLily, I would take a moment, research the history of the term and the people attributed to it, why you see it as a positive term, and once all that research is complete, question if/why you're okay with the term. Personally it's a neutral term for me [I have no strong feelings towards it] however, since it is a thing of pain for people of a certain culture, I choose not to use it.

Indeed! As someone with many Romani relatives, I find this brash and offensive... Like using a slur for black people or hispanic people to describe a type of magic. and saying it is a magickal term is like using a nazi swastika and saying it's ok because it's a sun wheel...

Over time many words and phrases have taken on meanings other than the original. Take the word HERO for instance, it used to have a completely different meaning than that in which it is used today. The swastika? Yes, its meaning was different but has also changed with time.

I am Romanian gypsy and we call ourselves gypsies no offence for us because that’s what we are and we are very proud.

My family on my maternal fathers side comes from gypsies. No one in the family seemed to take offense to the word. Is the word ''chose'' supposed to be Choice? I was imagining it as the word Choosing.

To keep rituals and spells more open, I've learned not to use a certain Goddess or God, or any kind of direct calling. It leaves it open for the reader to fill that spot for themselves. What's the point of wasting your time to post something if no one wants to use it, right? I like to just phrase Goddess or Lady and God or Lord. It keeps it simple for beginners as well. Just a lesson that I learned along the way. We're witches, we're supposed to share our info with one another! LOL!

Given that you can change spells to what you want (I actually recommend that over doing a ritual word-for-word as what the original poster/author meant), I will give you that. But don't forget that this was based on a specific path, so it could be different for Romanian practicioners, especially if you compare it to the Wiccan Path or something of that nature.

I am a Romany and all my family are too. They are old fashioned and travel in wooden wagons still not trailers and caravans etc. I don’t mind being called a gypsy at all and I’m proud of it yet if you said that to my grandad and older generations they would kill you haha I think it just depends on who and what term :)
