Alright, I myself am a 13 year old witch that has been actively practicing the craft for like 6 months, and I was reading the Dealing with Parents section, and thought I would add my views, and my current situation.

Let's start with some small Bios.

My Grandmother

~Actively practices Christianity

~Is VERY supportive of almost everything I do, and offers advice WHEN EVER I need it.

~Beleives in magick

~Knows that I'm a witch.

~Very Open Minded.

~Is very close to me. The one I turn to when I have problems, and is the most dear person to me in the whole world.

My Father

~Strict, likes to be right, and be in control.

~Close Minded.

~Despises me as his son.

~Has threatened to throw me out of the house for non witch related reasons on countless occasions.

~Doesnt beleive in magick at all. I want to add in here that both my aunt, and cousin actively practice magick, whom I rarely ever see for they live far away. There was a period in my life that lasted a year where I did get to learn about, and meet them tho.

My Mother

~Fairly Pleasent. We are some what close, but rarely ever really talk.

~She doesnt beleive in witchcraft, tho I THINK she respects it.

~She was raised cristian, and always helped at the church, but I think shes the type of person to respect other religions.

~Tends to try to break arguments between my father and I, and fails.

Now, I was thinking today, why haven't I told my parents that I'm a witch? They should respect my beliefs, right? And what right would my father have to do anything jurastic about it? I considered for a brief moment, telling my parents, after 6 months of secrecy, but then I thought...Call my Grandmother. So I did. I told her what I wanted to do, since she knows my father better than anyone else. She said That my mom would probably respect it, but as far as my dad, she doesn't think he can handle something like that right now. I told her that it's nice to have her supporting me, and that as long as she knows, that's good enough for me. Afterwards, we discussed many other things, such as my grades which at the moment I am fairly proud of, my plans for the summer, and how shes doing at work (all were topics I started to talk about to avoid awkwardness.)

So my advice to anyone is if your parents don't already know, then practice, and gain as much knowledge as you can. Keep a binder for your book of shadows. I keep mine in my bookbag, beside my bed, and occasionally when my parents are in a bad mood, under the slide in drawers of the bottom of my bed, or my dresser under some cloths. Ultimately, I think that you should not keep it bottled up. Pick one trusted adult to tell. One that tends to respect and support you, and have them aware of it. In the future, your parents will probably find out, and you will always have that one person to back you up, and to be able to go to when things go wrong. Otherwise, just make sure you have someone that you can talk to honestly, and hold them dear.

Blessed Be,

Kody
