Before casting any spell/performing any ritual or invoking a deity its always recomended that you use necasary protection I'm going to share a few methods here:

Sheilding:
It helps to visualise a sheild around you,your space and home when casting,I prefer visualising a white sheild as it represents purity and the angels,this sheild should keep out negative energies and entities

Insense:
Insense is a must though it should always be burned in a well ventilated room,I strongly recomend sage/white sage when it comes to protection however always make sure the deity you are going to summon (if summoning) likes the insense

Charms:
It helps to keep charms enchanted with divine energy near or on you

Spells:
Protection spells are recomended when casting spells,they give us peace of mine and keep away negative entities

Prayer:
A prayer to your deities will also protect you it can be a small prayer

Cleansing:
I feel its a good idea to cleanse ones self before casting spells to get rid of negative energies as well as after spells for the same reason,a warm bath with protective oils and herbs is great
