This skips out a lot of steps, I believe that this is either fake or unfinished.

''Hold the animal above your head by the stomach.'' Yeah... that's going to go really well.

I ...think the writer is referring to holding the pet aloft in the 'simba pose'.

In any event, unfortunately this attempt at a working is too incomplete to achieve anything more than causing your pet a bit of discomfort and likely a bunch of annoyance. I would recommend starting with some study on what a familiar is, what role they fulfill, and where they come from.


This is not how you make a familiar. A familiar is a spirit you have a contract with. While animals can share this bond, you do not hold them in the air and go ''You're my familiar'' and call it a day. Not only do you need to form a deep bond with the animal, but there is a full dedication ceremony to create that familiar bond. And as the ''chant'' mentioned, you would sense each others pain. You can sense when the other is in distress, sad, happy, angry, injured, whatever. And when they die, a piece of you will die with them. Think before you cast. Some things you do not wish to learn the hard way.
