Herbs and stones

Hi everyone.
I'm a total newbie to Wicca and can't find the answer anywhere so please excuse me if I've missed it.
When you pick herbs and plants would you give thanks as you would when picking a branch for a wand say.
And if you do would you give the same thanks for rocks and stones.
Many thanks in advance
Dan.

I'd just like to add that I wouldn't take a branch on a tree just that I've read it's good to ask or/and give thanks to a tree if you were to take a branch.
Thanks Dan

You may want to read this post that the mod Lark made about what Wicca is and isn't:http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=637268

Now an answer to your question: You don't have to, it's by decision. If you feel the need to thank mother naturefor it, do it. But it's always good to be thankful and grateful for nature especially in magick. It's the same for sticks, plants, rocks, crystals, and stones. Basically, it's your choice what you say, but I personally believe you should say thank you, just out of respect.

Many thanks I think I was a bit too quick to ask the question as soon as I thought about it I knew that was the answer.
Many thanks

It is my perspective that the purpose of practices such as thanking the land for providing you with things as you take or use them is a method of generating a habit of thankfulness in general. performing acts of gratitude, and making statements of gratitude, generates thoughts of gratitude as well that you hold beyond those individual moments.

it helps generate a habit of being thankful to the world around you, which also helps generate new habits. like looking to the things you have already more than at the things you are missing or want but can't get. This of course helps promote a more positive outlook in general as you learn to direct your focus differently. it also helps foster appreciation for and care towards the things you have available to you.

It is similar to learning to recapture the childlike wonder and awe towards the mysteries and paradoxes of life around you. And helps to foster a sense of value towards the little things.
