standing vs glass encased

Is it just me or do glass encased or vigil candles seem to "dance" more? I have two love candles for the same person, one is a 7 day vigil candle and the other is jUST a small votive candle; and the vigil candle's flame is dancing but the other is still and tall. Any thoughts?

The dancing may well be due to the turbulence cause by convection in such a relatively narrow space.

It is also more difficult to trim the wicks in the jars, leading often to having wicks too long, not only causing an unstable (dancing) flame which produces a lot of soot.

A properly trimmed wick with room to breathe, in a still environment, will be much more still than one in a closed-bottom cylinder.
