Spells to help depression

Hey all! So I am I going through a very difficult time right now. I have been going through a very deep depression for the past 9 months after I went through a very bad breakup that followed a bunch of other devastating events. Everything is okay now but the depression is still hovering over me every day and I don't know what to do. I have never had anything like this happen before, I used to be the most happy, bubbly, and energetic person and now I feel as though I lost a piece of myself and now am simply a shell of what I used to be. I just want to be the old me I used to be. Does anyone know of any spells or things I could do to feel like myself again?

And a side note, yes I am taking medication and I am seeing someone but there is only so much that they can do, I feel like for this situation Magick may be the last resort

If you really think magick is the way to go, try a sigil. Avoid phrases like, "I will be happy tomorrow." Instead, try something plausible that you can put effort toward, like, "I will find at least one thing to be thankful for tomorrow." Magick isn't a solution, but a means to come by that solution, if that makes sense. It's still going to be hard, but this will make it a little bit easier.

Frankly, I wouldnt recommend doing magic when youre depressed. Find a more mundane solution,

good luck!

I try and keep busy. Start a hobbie, collect herbs. Create an alter, decorate it better, light incense. reasearch more and experiement with new things. Try a different forum of divination. I find a bath light with white candles , epsom salts and baking soda. really hot. hope this helps <3

One thing that's important to do is focus on yourself and your health. My suggestions would be to decorate an altar and dedicate it to yourself. Add pictures of you or people/things you love and add anything that makes you happy. Use your favorite incense or candle and meditate at your altar surrounded by the things that make you happy. Another suggestion would be to take things that soothe you and add a little magick help. afor example, take a warm bath and add herbs for happiness and self love and use candles/a bath bomb with colors corresponding with joy. Lastly, it's important to do these things often, not just once or when you're at your worst. Even when you start feeling better, it's good to keep taking care of yourself. I hope this helps!

"I wouldnt recommend doing magic when youre depressed." -Except that what the original poster is describing is clinical depression, which doesn't go away and isn't just about being sad or downtrodden (take that from someone who is clinically depressed). It gets worse and better in waves and the only way to deal with it is to acknowledge it for what it is and take steps towards living life with it and that can be done (and is what the original poster is already doing).

I'll put it bluntly, Moon_Rose; you're not going to get your old self back, but that doesn't mean you'll never be happy, fulfilled, or satisfied with life anymore because you have to learn how to manage depression in life and you'll find that there can be a version of yourself that you can enjoy and thrive with.

Depression for me gets in the way of a lot of my daily life and what it means spiritually and magically is that I'm a little more lax and integrated with my practice (which can happen with anyone, not just depressed people). I don't think you should focus on using magic as a solution in this case, but you can look to it to help manage your day to day life (this whole mentality of saving magic for "special occasions" is really just a personal preference, not a universal "law").

I find when I get stuck in a rut, having air flow and plants around help keep circulation going and builds an environment that can help reflect in my mind because I find my physical environment often reflects my mental state and vice versa. It helps me specifically because when I do this while not in a rut, I don't have to struggle with not doing the things that will ultimately help me, like basic functionality, exercising, or eating right - it helps provide me a foundation that boosts me up so I can actually do those things.

All magic is really about when it comes down to it is a means to an end, so try to look for things that aid your goals, like things that boost self care, actually experiencing whatever emotion you are or aren't feeling and realizing that the worse bits will always pass as everything is temporary.

  • Don't beat yourself up for not being happy or not being able to enjoy things a lot of the time. Depression is a natural state for you and you're doing what you can to live life with it. It's okay.
  • Little things in life add up - enjoy what you can when you're able to.
  • Get inspired by something and ease yourself into action. Little steps lead to many little steps, which leads to bigger steps.
  • Form little habits. Stability and perpetuation of things you enjoy can help keep you stable and cope.
  • Make plans with people outside of your home. A change in environment can help take you out of a particularly bad rut and I personally find that when my focus is not always on myself, I don't have time to sink into unnecessary thoughts.
  • When you can't feel emotionally, try focusing on physical sensation. This also helps with my panic attacks as it is a form of grounding and centering the mind specifically to the body (like feeling the wind in your hair and on your face or squeezing a soft sponge with hot water that doesn't burn you).

Magic structured around what you're already doing for self help can amplify that both in a magical and a psychological manner. I don't claim to know everything, but I do know how I personally experience clinical depression and I know reaching out is important.
