Store-Bought Wands
By:
Hey, everybody. I was flipping through some old forum threads and found one about wands, and how to make them. Personally, I don't use wands often, but the one I do use, I made.
So I was wondering if anyone has bought a wand online or at a store, and how, if at all, it has affected your practice. Also, try and be specific: what was it made of? Where did you get it? Was it made by a machine, or handmade?
Thanks, guys! Luck and light to you all!

I have bought all of my wands bar my first (a twig) and have found that so long as I am very drawn to and connected to the wand, I have no problems with them being bought.

  • I have several crystal wands: selenite, blue goldstone, amethyst, clear quartz, obsidian, opalite.
  • Several turned wooden wands: alder, and birch.
  • A single hand carved wood and quartz wand.
  • I also have an antler and crystal wand that was handmade by a welsh crafter.

I find that each has its own unique personality and works best with different intentions.
Over time I have found good results with all of them so long as I am connected to them, those that I am less connected to I am less successful with but then again the same can be said for most tools.

Are the stone wands unwieldy? Stone wands always look so heavy and cumbersome.

I actually prefer the weightier wands like the antler and crystal, most wooden wands I have tried are simply too light, they remind me of holding a pencil so the extra weight is much better for me.

Yeah, I can see how the extra weight might make it seem more magick, or real.

I have a wand which I purchased from a fellow Wiccan who made lovely ones of various hardwoods.

The wand which I use is made of 500-year-old bog oak from Ireland (representing the God) and of Elder (Representing the Goddess). Elder is quite pale in color while bog oak is a deep brown making quite a lovely wand. I'll upload a picture of the wand to my Pictures here on SOM shortly.

I prefer a simpler, wooden wand to those with lots of stones and crystals. After all, my ancestors would not have had access to such fancy adornments. For them wood would be the preferred material from which to make a wand.

As I cleanse and consecrate any tool prior to using it, I have not noted any difference in the energy and usefulness of the wand I purchased from an earlier one which I made of apple wood.

My thoughts exactly, Lark. I've turned and smoothed my wand, which is made of heart of pine, but I prefer to keep it simple with most of my tools.

Personally, I prefer to make my wands, but I did once order a oak wand from Salem Massachusetts and it worked just fine. I think that buying wands are perfectly ok.

Mine is actually a recycled chinese hair pin. I think it is made out of pine wood (I actually can't remember) and I painted it and added a moonstone. It gets the job done.

I think that what is important is the energy we fill them with and if they call to us to help us with our practice.
